2024-W CAC MS-70 First Day Of Delivery 1 oz American Silver Eagle Burnished Coin

The 2024 1 oz US Silver Eagle consists of a 1 Troy oz coin of 99.9% fine silver, a USD 1 face value, and is fully backed by the US federal government. It features a beloved design created by Adolph A. Wenman, rescued from the 1917 Half Dollar coin, to especially stamp the Silver Eagles, and Emily Damstra’s commemorative design for the 35th anniversary of the American Eagle Program.

These coins, in particular, are burnished versions, struck in the West Point branch, and carry the “W” mint mark. The blanks used in their minting underwent a special treatment process called burnishing, which cleans them from undesired oxides, resulting in a matte finish with more vivid design details.

Today, you can find 2024-W 1 oz Burnished American Silver Eagles, taken among those available for purchase in the US Mint on day #1, sealed in CAC slabs and certified as an MS-70 coin, at SD Bullion

The Design

The obverse features Lady Liberty folded in the American walking towards the sun, welcoming new inhabitants with the oak branches she carries.

The word “LIBERTY,” the year of issuance, lies, the motto “IN GOD WE TRUST,” and the “W’ West Point mint mark is beneath it to complete the image.

The Bald Eagle perched on a branch with open wings stamps the reverse. The engravings “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” “ONE DOLLAR,” “1 OZ,” “FINE SILVER,” and “E PLURIBUS UNUM” complete the image.

Burnished Coins

A Burnished American Eagle Coin results from a “burnishing” process, hence the name. It essentially means that the blanks are cleaned from all oxides formed during the annealing and rimming process. This way, burnished coins get a satin look and a smooth surface but less reflective luster than Proof American Eagles.

A CAC MS-70 First Day of Delivery Coin

Like other renowned third-party services, CAC (Certified Acceptance Corporation) appraises and certifies coins using the Sheldon Scale, which ranks coins from 1 to 70.

MS stands for Mint State, indicating a coin crafted in the format of a business circulation coin. Since it has never been in circulation, the coin has no flaws, which grants it a 70 grade.

CAC considers “First Day of Delivery” a coin purchased from the US Mint on the very first day it was made publicly available.
